Update on Delivery of Petition to SLO City Council

SLO petition on its way to countywide ban.

Thank you for signing the petition. Ripples turning into waves

Delivered the Petition to the City Council on Oct. 15 and was informed by the Council that they don’t approve of Fracking and there is a 1986 zoning law that prohibits oil and gas drilling in City Limits.

Not wanting to leave empty handed and wanting to honor all your comments and concerns, I asked the council if they would send a letter to the County Board of Supervisors calling on them to adopt a countywide Ban on Fracking. They said they were pretty busy and that they don’t usually do stuff like that but we should get on the agenda to ask for further city action.

So, I went to the Council meeting  Nov. 5, to ask again if they would please honor all the signers of this petition and just write a letter calling on the Board of Supervisors to adopt a countywide ban on Fracking.

After I finished and was expecting further instructions on how to proceed with this request, the Vice Mayor, Kathy Smith, said the council approved and subsequently wrote a letter to the Board of Supervisors calling on them for a countywide ban. You could have knocked me over with a feather. I was stunned.

Vice Mayor Smith asked, “We will present the letter to the Board the first meeting in January. Is that alright?” Is that alright? I was so surprised all I could say was “yes” and “thank you.” And that was it.

They really deserve more than that folks. This is a big deal. We are going to go to all the other cities and ask their city councils now to do the same thing. San Luis set the stage and you started it all by signing this petition and it worked big time! We have to let the Council know we appreciate their very timely response and thank them for listening and taking our concerns to heart. I am sure they do not hear this often enough.

Could you take a minute and let them know you appreciate their time and consideration please?  We have to let them know they did good.  Thank you. Here is the contact info. Telephone #805-781-7114. Here are all the Council’s email addresses. http://www.slocity.org/citycouncilmembers.asp. Email anyone or all. Your choice. It’s all good.

  1. Good work! The Board of Supes will not take kindly to a county fracking ban because of carrizzo. They are very pro oil! Joey Racano: ‘Weapon of mass discussion’
